Just won 3rd place on a Firefox OS App contest with an Enyo app

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to thanks everyone here that helped me with answers, tips and examples. I am at Campus Party Brasil ( http://www.campus-party.com.br ), a very large tech expo/conference in Brazil. Eight thousand people camping in a venue with 30gbps connection and hundreds of activities and sessions.

During this conference there was an app contest for Firefox OS organized by Mozilla, Telefonica and Facebook. 22 teams and a week of work. My app, a QR Decoder made purely with Enyo and some extra JS libraries won third place. I got a couple Firefox OS phones and other smartphones as a prize.

I've build a some Enyo components for Firefox OS to add support for WebActivities ( https://hacks.mozilla.org/2013/01/introducing-web-activities/ ) that I will share soon (need a review first). My app code is already shared on github but it needs some review (code was rushed to meet the deadline). The address to my github repo is: https://github.com/soapdog/QRDecoder

The application only works on Firefox OS because it uses Web Activities for the camera and for sharing stuff. Anyone with Firefox can install the Firefox OS Simulator Add-on and try it out.

Thanks everyone at the Enyo team and the webOS community. Also big thanks to Jay Cannuck for the help and to Roy Sutton for the book (I read it in a day and it really helped me).

:-D

Congratulations! I look forward to seeing this in the marketplace.
P.S. I think this should go in showing off.
  • Excellent, congratulations!
  • Congratulations. If you are working on any cross-platform Enyo apps, we'd love to hear about them and promote them however we can!

  • Thanks for all the kind words folks!

    Peter,

Thanks very much for the offer!

This application is a Firefox OS app and uses APIs that are not cross-platform at the moment. Its the very first QR Code reader on Firefox OS so it is important but it is not cross-platform at the moment. In the future I may try to abstract some of these APIs so that it works on other platforms but this is not the objective at the moment.

I would love to have help to promote it if it gets cross-platform but even as a single platform app, it is a pretty cool milestone for Enyo on Firefox OS which is the only current mobile OS where web is a first class citizen (I miss webOS).

I am localizing it and polishing, then maybe we can feature it on the blog or something similar.

    Cheers
    andre
  • Sounds great. Keep us posted, and you can always email me at [email protected] if you need any help!
  • I have a dev device running FFOS, so I can help with beta testing, if you like.
